The
Kersley Lecture was established after the successful
1991 ECLSO
(European Contact Lens Society of Ophthalmologists) congress in London.
Dr. Jonathon Kersley was one of the founding members of the MCLA (now MCLOSA).
Dr. Kersley was in sole control of the congress and
in recognition of the amount of time involved, the
MCLA (now MCLOSA) agreed that he should receive a fee
or a percentage of the profits, whichever was the greater.
Such was the success of the congress that Dr. Kersley
gave from his fee a lump sum directly to the MCLA and
a further sum to provide from interest, the funding
of an annual lecture.
Dr. Kersley was associated with the MCLA since 1971
and was on its committee from 1974 in various
posts including President and later ex-officio until
1994. |
